About us

Open Hands Africa grew from a long personal connection with people in Zimbabwe, built over many years of relationship and a growing understanding of the challenges faced by people with albinism.

That connection led to the first Chicken Project. A practical, community-shaped response to help families build a sustainable source of income and work toward self-sufficiency.

It was through this project that we met Emmapaida (Emma), a woman with albinism who became a primary contact, a community leader, and an advocate for other people with albinism. Emma's own experience, insight, and leadership have been central to shaping everything that followed.

As those relationships deepened, so did our understanding of need. Medical care was out of reach. Children were missing out on education. Families lacked the most basic essentials. And for some, safe housing and sanitation remained a distant hope. One project became many — each one a response to a real and identified need.

Open Hands Africa Ltd was formally established on 20 January 2026 and has applied for registration as a charity with the ACNC.
